The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) have teamed up with eBay and top fashion designers to raise money for CFDA’s fight against counterfeiting.

The result, some fantastic looking canvas bags for $150 – a real steal if you look at the price tag of some of the bags these designers sell in their shops! With only 50 of each bag made, I’m a little hesitant that this will help with counterfeiting –if anything, my sense is it’s going to add to it. The bags received a lot of attention and have already sold out on ebay – with the exception of the $35 CFDA plain tote. I think counterfeiters will just have another product to replicate and sell to make bank.

It’s a losing game trying to keep a handle on counterfeiting. When there’s an opportunity to make money – they’ll risk the penalties in order to cash in on people’s wants and desires to keep up with the Joneses while spending a little less than the Joneses.

I would be content with the $35 canvas bag – take the blank slate and be the designer of your own designer handbag!
